Apple Construction training deliver a high volume of NVQ’s for our customers,  Cskills have recently made an announcement in relation to EWPA NVQ’s (Experienced Worker Practical Assessment).

Cskills will be withdrawing their plant EWPA delivery model affective from the 31st December 2017.

‘Cskills Awards is required to comply with the Assessment Strategy, as are all other Awarding Organisations, and for this reason the ability to achieve our Plant and Plant-related qualifications by Experienced Worker Practical Assessment (EWPA) will be withdrawn on the 31 December 2017’.

The link below contains the update if you would like to read more.

http://www.citb.co.uk/awards/news-updates/news/withdrawal-of-plant-ewpa-route/#

This isn’t only related to Cskills this is related to all Awarding bodies. There for from the 31st Dec 2017 nobody will be able to deliver the plant NVQ under the EWPA model.

This delivery method was designed to complete the NVQ in a shorter period, making it very popular with 90% of the construction industry.

From 1st January 2018 anyone looking to upgrade their Red card to a Blue card will have to be delivered under the OSAT delivery model. This can take up to 3 visits to complete in comparison to the 1 day for a EWPA NVQ. The cost for an OSAT NVQ is currently £1,100+vat per NVQ and you can claim £400 back in levy payment if you are part of the citb grant scheme.

On Site Assessment and Training (OSAT)

The On Site Assessment and Training (OSAT) route is designed specifically for learners who have less experience in the relevant occupation.  It is an alternative method of assessment for those who prefer to demonstrate their skills via methods other than just practical assessment. Training may be given by site colleagues/Managers in between assessor visits.

The learner will be required to collect additional evidence before the assessor can sign off this portfolio.

The OSAT assessment will be based on five contributing items:

  1. Witness questionnaire
  2. Employer letter stating a minimum number of operational hours on the particular item of plant
  3. Practical assessment
  4. Professional discussion (one-to-one discussion with an assessor)
  5. Evidence gathered through working on the particular item of plant on site – site induction, methods statements, risk assessment, plant daily maintenance check sheets, COSHH assessments, lift plans (if relevant) – all must relate directly to the candidate

The current EWPA model of delivering an NVQ is detailed below, the cost of a current EWPA NVQ is £695+vat and can be delivered either on site or at our Centre in Fenny Compton. You can see why this route was popular with 90% of the construction industry.

Experienced Worker Practical Assessment Route (EWPA)

The experienced worker practical assessment (EWPA) route is designed specifically for learners who have a minimum of 2 years’ experience in the relevant occupation.  It is a method of assessment for those who prefer to demonstrate their skills by practical observation.

The EWPA assessment will be based on four contributing items:

    1. Witness testimonies and statement from the employer/main contractor
    2. Employer endorsement stating a minimum of 2 years’ experience on the particular item of plant
    3. Practical assessment
    4. Professional discussion (one-to-one discussion with an assessor)

Note:

  • The criteria of all EWPA Learners include:
  • Being site experienced (minimum of 2 years’) in all the stated skills of the qualification they wish to achieve
  • Having sufficient experience of the skills of the qualification, so that planning their working day, problem solving and decision making and working to deadlines (regarding their plant operating skills) are a usual day-to-day activity.
  • An ability to cope with the demands of an intensive practical assessment process
  • An ability to work safely at all times
  • An ability to discuss their work with others

Costs EWPA NVQ:

1 Assessment per day – £695+vat with a grant claim of £400.00

2 Assessments per day – £1,190+vat with a grant claim of £800.00

To confirm the process please see below:

  • Candidate is registered ( Candidate must be able to provide evidence of a minimum of 2 year’s experience using the plant for a EWPA NVQ)
  • Candidate attends our centre or our assessor visit site
  • NVQ completed
  • Qualification is quality assured and certificate is claimed
  • CITB grant claimed

Please note there is an additional charge for travel if our assessor visits your site.

If you have any experienced plant operatives that need their NPORS or CPCS cards upgrading and can meet the above criteria in relation to the EWPA NVQ then please contact us now so we can get these booked before the changes take place.

On successfully achieving the NVQ you will be able to claim £400 in grant from the CITB (if you are a CITB levy payer) which substantially reduces your delivery charges and I will be able to discuss ways in which we can keep the cost’s to a minimum in order to provide you with maximum value for money.

Please contact myself or one of our experienced members of staff to discuss this in more detail.
